What’s it all about?
Not sure what dragon boating is? 20 people, 2 abreast, all in the same boat – it’s the ultimate team sport. Men’s, women’s or mixed teams. Premier, masters, grand masters and great-grand masters divisions.
There is something for everyone. If you like to be active and want to join a friendly group for a bit of fun, just let us know. Our paddlers range in age from 20 to those in their 70s. Age is no deterrent.
Brave Hearts Dragon Boat Club is open to all. Many of our members have had a cancer diagnosis, some are families and friends and some are supporters of our cause. Everyone is welcome.
Brave Hearts is a club with “heart”. We know that, whatever your situation, friends and social connections are beneficial to your health and wellbeing. Not to mention an active lifestyle!
Research is constantly showing the importance of keeping active after a cancer diagnosis to reduce the chances of recurrence. It also supports regular exercise for the prevention of many other illnesses and conditions. We support people to improve their fitness and activity levels. The aim is to do your personal best and have some fun along the way.
Come and Try
Have you ever thought about paddling in a dragon boat? Well now is the time to come along and try it out. At Brave Hearts its all about having a good time while keeping active, improving our fitness and making new friends.
We “pleasure cruise” every Sunday afternoon. This is the session for beginners or those who just want to take it easy. We will provide all the gear and teach you how to paddle. You just have to wear some comfortable clothing, bring a drink, hat and sunscreen. Why not bring a friend as well.
Come along to see what happens, join in, give it a go and, if you like it, you can join up. First three paddle sessions are free, no commitment.
When: Every Sunday afternoon.
Where: Gateway Lake, Lemke Rd, off Lincoln Causeway, Wodonga.
What to bring: Wear shorts/pants, tshirt/light jumper, shoes that can get wet, hat, sunscreen, drink
We will provide boats, paddle, life jacket, all instruction by a qualified sweep
Do you love to compete?
If you want to be competitive you can join our racing team and compete across Victoria during the summer season. Our racing teams train on two evenings a week during summer and the focus is on improving personal fitness and paddling technique.
The race season runs from October until April and our club attends one regatta per month, mostly in Melbourne or country Victoria.
To join the club download a <<bhminc-application-for-membership-2016-17>> (print and bring). Complete and either post or bring to the boat shed. We will then register you as a paddler with both Brave Hearts and Dragon Boats Victoria.
